Is Being Agile a Good Thing?
That's the title of a presentation Alan gave at a recent UNITE (Unisys User Associate) meeting in October 2015.
Everybody wants to be “agile”, or so we are told. And the idea of having an organization that can change quickly, and react to shifting requirements does sound attractive. But what does that really mean for most of us? There is a development philosophy called “Agile” that purports to give you all you need in this area. But does it? In this session we will look at different development styles, including Agile methods (with a capital “A”), and others that are just as “agile” (with a little “a”).
We will discuss what types of projects are good candidates for an agile methodology, and some that may not be.
You may find that using “Agile” doesn’t necessarily make you “agile”, or that some of us have been “agile” for years, and just didn’t know it.

Articles about EAE and AB Suite
As the engineering program manager and senior architect for AB Suite Alan has written several articles and white papers on various technical topics. Below are references to some of the material he produced that is publicly available.
Developing Agility electronic newsletter: In 2005 Unisys began producing a quarterly newsletter, distributed electronically, on a subscription basis. Alan personally authored many of the articles, and played a key part in planning and editing each issue from the beginning, until November 2012. Even if his name is not on the article, he contributed to most, and reviewed each newsletter before publication. In the Engineering Corner articles in particular, they tried to feature a different engineer in each issue, and in the cases in which he did not write the article Alan was the coach, and “translator”, explaining the technology and business benefits to the writers.
